A rapidly growing regional high speed fiber internet provider is set to expand into the Elmira area. Prattsburgh-based Empire Access , which already provides service to large swaths of New York's Southern Tier and Pennsylvania's Northern Tier, expects to have construction completed to bring its service to the Elmira area in early October, according to a company news release. The new service will include Elmira and areas north and south of the city, the company said. Founded in 1896 with a single telephone line in Prattsburgh, Empire Access has expanded its range considerably in recent years, focusing on smaller communities outside of major metropolitan areas to provide homes, businesses and local governments with high speed internet access.
